Stay alert to scams following the Origin Energy data incident

Origin Energy has confirmed that customer information was accessed in a recent data security incident and is contacting current and former customers whose information it confirms was affected.

This incident relates to Origin Energy, not Northern Inland Credit Union. However, data breaches can lead to convincing scams involving calls, emails and text messages that appear to come from Origin, Northern Inland or another trusted organisation.

Protect yourself
Be cautious if someone unexpectedly asks you to:

  •  provide personal or banking information
    •  share a password, PIN or one-time security code

    •  click a link or download an attachment or app

    •  give them remote access to your device

    •  make an urgent payment

  •        transfer money to a “safe account”.
Northern Inland will never ask for your Online Banking password or a one-time security code. We will never ask you to transfer money to another account to keep it safe.

Do not use links or contact details provided in an unexpected message. Find the organisation’s official website or phone number independently and contact it directly.

Information for Origin customers
Current and former Origin Energy customers should visit Origin’s official website directly for the latest information and verified contact details.
