Hoax Emails and SMS - What to look for?

Please be aware of any email or SMS you receive purporting to be from any bank or credit union, including Northern Inland Credit Union, requesting urgent requests for personal financial information.

The latest ‘phishing’ scams are targeting credit unions. These emails are quite professional and appear to come directly from the institution with some even including logos of the institution. The emails generally have information including:

  • Your account has been accessed from an unauthorised user!
  • Your account will be suspended
  • Reactivate your Master Card or Visa Card

Whilst these emails can look professional it is important to look for any minor errors such as grammatical or spelling errors. Simple errors you would not expect to see could mean the email is a scam.

Remember: Northern Inland will NEVER request personal financial information by email or telephone: we will ask you to contact us instead.

Do not reply to unsolicited email or telephone requests for account numbers, NetTeller passwords, PINs or code information. Telephone Northern Inland on 1300 65 65 81 if you receive any email, purporting to be from us, which you believe to be suspicious.
